Olga Kassoti

Subject/Specialty: Early Childhood Mathematics and Science

Olga Kassoti holds a Bachelor’s degree from the Pedagogical Academy of Mytilene (1985-87). She also holds a Diploma in Advanced Study of Education (1988-1990) and Master in Education (1990-1992) specializing in computers in education from the University of Manchester, UK. She has also pursued two years of further education at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2008-2010), and at International Hellenic University where she earned a Master of Arts in Black Sea Cultural Studies (2013-2015). Her doctoral thesis on the gender digital divide was completed in 2011 at the Pedagogical Department of the University of the Aegean in 2011.

Since 1988, she has held a variety of positions in the primary education sector, including primary school teacher in Greece and also in UK, principal of primary schools, educational coordinator, and education consultant. She is also a trainer in the official program “Teacher training for the utilization and application of digital technologies in the teaching practice” and she has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the Technological Institute of Thessaloniki, ASPAITE and the University of Nicosia. She has also conducted multiple in-service trainings for educators and has participated in Greek and European research projects.

She is the co-author of the textbook “Mathematics 6th grade” which is used in Greek primary schools since 2006 and also a member of the scientific committee of the Greek state for the reform of school programmes. In this role, Dr. Kassoti has served as an expert and developer in the field of mathematics, participating in the Greek Institute of Educational Policy committee for updating Curriculum Programmes of Compulsory Education and developing educational materials for Primary and Secondary Education (2011–2023). In the same capacity, she has also participated in the Greek Ministry’s program of training Teachers on the new Mathematics curriculum and educational materials for Primary and Secondary Education.

She has written articles on her areas of interest and taken part in a number of conferences. She reviews articles for two scholarly publications.

Her work and research interests span a wide range of subjects, including gender studies, the use of technologies in schools, and mathematics in primary education.
